SAJ commercial battery systems

SAJ’s CHS2 puts a hybrid inverter, an LFP battery and backup switching in one outdoor cabinet. It suits a site that wants solar, storage and backup in a single unit, sized right from the start.

Where it sits on your site

Solar feeds a hybrid inverter, which charges and discharges the SAJ CHS2 cabinet battery and supplies the site switchboard. The site imports from and exports to the grid through the meter. An intelligent control layer reads price, tariff and site load and directs each of them. How we choose

The CHS2 suits a site that wants solar, storage and backup in one cabinet, with a built-in transfer switch and a generator input. Size it carefully: SAJ’s warranty says battery capacity cannot be expanded after installation. For larger loads, SAJ’s CH3 hybrid inverter runs from 75 to 125 kW. We size the battery against twelve months of interval data and the site’s tariff, specify it with the solar and controls, and have it installed by licensed electrical contractors engaged under Vitalic’s governance.

SAJ batteries: common questions

Is SAJ’s commercial battery on the CEC approved list?

The CHS2 is, under certificate BAT-601, in configurations from 51.5 to 180.4 kWh usable, listed until 31 December 2027. SAJ’s CH3, CB3 and CM2 commercial products were not on the list when we checked on 7 October 2026.

What warranty does SAJ give on the CHS2 in Australia?

Under SAJ’s Australian CHS2 warranty, the battery is covered for 10 years to 70 per cent of usable energy, or 61 MWh of throughput per battery pack, whichever comes first. The inverter is covered for 10 years and the air conditioner for 5, with labour covered in years 1 to 5. The system must stay online, and capacity cannot be expanded after installation.

Can a SAJ CHS2 provide backup power?

Yes. It has a built-in transfer switch, which SAJ rates at 20 milliseconds, and an input for a diesel generator. Backup still needs the essential circuits, starting loads and duration specified in the electrical design.

Can a CHS2 be expanded later?

Not under SAJ’s warranty, which says the battery system is not scalable after installation. That makes the sizing study more important: we model the battery against twelve months of interval data before choosing the cabinet.

Does a commercial battery earn certificates?

Only on its first 50 kWh of usable capacity. Under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which businesses can use for batteries of 5 to 100 kWh, certificates are paid in full up to 14 kWh, at 60 per cent to 28 kWh and at 15 per cent to 50 kWh, and only for a battery on the Clean Energy Council’s approved list. A commercial battery is justified by the demand charges and energy costs it reduces.
